Scratch Game Design

Playing other peoples games helped me a lot. It helped me make my game a little more challenging for the players who will be playing my game. Playing others games helped me realize what I need to work on and make better. It also helped me realize what game players expect in a chase game. Looking inside the codes of some games helped me out with my game. It was really confusing to me and looking at other peoples coding made it easier for me because this was my first time actually making a game from scratch. What I did was I took some codes from other peoples codes and remixed it with mine. I did a little customizing and made it sorta my own.

There are a bunch of features to this game. For example there are a lot of interesting details. It's not boring. It hooks the player to keep playing. I think the features to both of my games are different because my chase game is not really and adventure like my platformer. With my platformer game the levels get harder & harder once you complete the levels. My chase game doesn't really change levels. It basically just goes in a loop until you run out of time. which is not really challenging but still amusing.

I think my best code was my platformer code. I think that was my best code because if you look at that code it seems hard and difficult to do. But its not. It was really fun to make. I also think it is my best code because I had more time to work on it. So it was neat and organized and not all over the place. To be honest I sorta rushed my other games because I was on a trip for about two weeks and I had no computer. Soooo....... I guess I would say this was my best quality code I did.

Invention Commercial

P2T10_invention from Kapaa Middle School MEDIA on Vimeo.
Our teams main goal for this assignment was to come up with an invention that could help real people with real world problems. Our goal was also to entertain our audience. commercials are all about entertainment, its also about selling your product but mostly entertaining. If you don't entertain your audience with your commercial they probably won't be interested enough to buy your product. The invention that we came up with is called the feel good app. This app is supposed to help people with their confidence and self-esteem. So basically it is a app that you watch inspirational videos.

I think that one of our best team moments was filming. I think that was our best team moment because we had a lot of fun doing it. I think it was a team moment for us because we were prepared and we new what we were doing because we have been in this class last year. Another team moment I think we had was coming up with our idea. We didn't really argue with each other or had any problems with any of our ideas. We were very supportive of each other, And when it was time to pick our commercial idea we all chose the same thing. So that we wouldn't be spending all that time arguing about whose idea we were going to chose.

During post production we split ourselves up for each different job. Mike did half of the main editing. He only did half because he was getting frustrated. That's when I took over. I did the other half Of editing. I think that we did a pretty good job editing. It came out exactly how we wanted it to be. Zephen didn't really edit but he was there to help and support us. For example we needed a couple more scenes to meet the requirements but Mike and I needed to stay at the computer to finish editing. So Zephen asked for a camera and filmed the final scene for us.

Composition Scavenger Hunt

I think the most important composition is the rule of thirds subject. I think this technique is the most important to me because just the way it looks makes it look really neat and professional. I am pretty sure I can speak for every one when I say that I would rather look at a neat clear and organized film then a film with shots that's really confusing and hard to understand. Also I think that when you are filming it is really easy to find the rule of thirds on the camera.

I think the most difficult composition is the contrast and content because when you are filming this shot you have to try to really focus on just one thing. And to be honest it is really hard. For our group we got really frustrated because the camera kept on going out of focus right when we started the video. This composition technique is very difficult to shoot but in the end if you shoot the technique right it just might come out perfect in your video.

My teammates for this assignment is Mike and Zephen. Yes I am aware that Im the only girl! But thats okay because we get the work done. I think our team is very productive. Mike was kinda like the director on our team. He was the boss. But he was good at it, He was professional. Zephen was kinda like our "model" He was the one that we filmed. I was mostly the editor and sometimes the filmed but most of the time Mike was the one that filmed.

Cracking the Code

This recent project in Mr.Sanderls class is coding. We have been practicing coding. We even got certificates! coding is a very important skill to have. I think that everyone should learn how to code. One reason why is because you can make a living off of coding things. Most jobs pay you big time just for coding things. Wouldn't you want that job?

My first experience working with coding was pretty easy if you know how to follow directions well and don't have a problem with patience then you will have the most easiest time with coding. It was pretty fun. Especially when it actually moves. Its like "Wow I can't believe that I did that!". It may seem weird to feel like that but it is pretty amazing watching your work come together into a outstanding outcome. But to be honest as you go on with the levels you will come to find out that it gets more challenging. But all you really need is practice and it will probably get easier.

If I could design any game I would design a game it would be about fashion. I don't know why but I remember playing dress up games on the computer. It was so interesting. I think that making a game like this would be really easy because dressing somebody up does not require the character to move you just need the clothes and other things to move. So I think that it would be the perfect game for me to create because I don't like to get challenged because I honestly don't have the patience.

My Humorous Monologue

MataJ_Comedy from Kapaa Middle School MEDIA on Vimeo.

Some things that I have learned from this project is how to edit videos with the newly improved and updated iMovie. There is a lot of new editing features that I was not familiar to but now I am. Also I learned about comedic timing and how it is very important when you are telling jokes, because if you don't have timing when you are telling your joke your audience probably will not understand what you are saying and they might not get the joke either. Lastly I learned that staying organized in iMovie will help you a whole lot with editing and trying to find what you need. I learned that the hard way.

Pad is the space around an element's content and margins or borders. Also the length or running time in your movie or video. It's extra film that can come before or after your footage.Padding is crucial because if you don't pad then your footage would look choppy and really not put together. Padding is not hard at all.  If you know how to do it. Padding is very important because it will look put together and professional.

My biggest weakness in this project was matching my A-roll to my B-roll. it is very hard trying to make it in sync with each other. But I kinda got it do a little I don't think no one noticed though. Also another one of my weakness was finding good effects and sounds that matched my footage. My biggest strength of all was filming. It was so easy for me because I love filming. Also acting it out was pretty easy to! Some ways to improve is to practice editing in iMovie because I am not used to editing film in iMovie because last year we edited all our film in final cut pro.

Comedy Writing

Having a sense of humor is an important trait to have because if you don't have a sense of humor then I believe that you would take everything someone says literally and thats not fun! Personally, I have a big sense of humor. People with no sense of humor probably have a boring life. Not being a hater or anything but a sense of humor can save your life! If someone lives a life without laughing or giggling at least once in their then thats not living at all!

Some tips for writing a humorous narrative or a humorous monologue is to just be cautious of what your writing your joke about because sometimes when you make fun of people they can take it to the heart and get very offended, and thats not good. Another tip for writing a joke is to base your joke on something that makes sense and make it about something everyone can relate to. For example "Knock, knock. Who's there. banana. Banana who? Banana apple!" See thats not funny at all!!!. Tip #3 be loose and creative when you are writing your narrative. Tip #4 is to write something thats not just funny to you, you have to relate your jokes to the audience. Lastly tip #5 is to be funny. Honestly I think that being funny is the most important tip ever when it comes to writing a humorous narrative.

My comedic monologue is about my brother and I and how he proved to me that he is bigger and stronger than me. I think my monolouge is funny because it is about my 6 year old brother tackling his 12 year old sister. I think everything about that is just totally hilarious! I also think that it's funny because it is embarrassing and most of the time getting embarrassed is funny to a lot of people sometimes.

Motivational Poster

Some of the requirements of the motivational poster is 4 Total Images: 3 symbolic images
representing who you are & 1 portrait image of your face, 2 Text Layers: 1 of your manifesto, 1 of your personal quotes. All text has to be kerned in a way that your words fit the whole page perfectly without gaps or holes between them. Your words have to have the triadic color scheme which is one dominate color with two more accent colors. You must have your blending options on. Last but not least you need visual balance. That means that your poster can not look like a unicorn barfed on it! It needs to be appealing to the eye.

The first step to making the motivational poster is to make your personal quotes and your manifesto. When I was done I put them into photoshop and made two text layers a personal manifesto and personal quotes. Then the next thing we had to do was take pictures that made sense and that expresses you and that tells people who you are and what represents you. Then you upload them to photoshop then adjust it to how you would like it. You would now put on your text layers that your motivational and quotes are in. Then we your all done with that you can start getting creative. ther is this tool in photoshop called layer adjustments and that will

The biggest challenge probably was staying organized. I think it was really hard to stay organized because there was a lot of things going on. There was 4 individual pictures, and 2 individual word docs. It may not sound like a lot but trust me it's a lot more than you would think. Especially when You had to make like a billion layers.

Personal manifesto

Hi! My name is Jaesha Aaliyah Hulilihoano Mata. Some interesting facts about me is that I am not a girly girl, I am a cheerleader, I ride dirtbike, I am active, I love the water, and the most important fact of all is that I LOVE FOOD! I am really not a girly girl at times because I like playing rough and I am not afraid to get dirty and muddy. I am a cheerleader for Lihue patriots. I know I am a trader because I live in Kapaa but my brother plays for patriots and my mom just thought it would be easier for me to cheer on my brother. I ride dirtbike. Thats right I am a girl that rides dirtbike! I have a KTM 110. I have been riding dirtbike for a long time. I am really active I play Volleyball, Soccer, and I cheer. I could be in the water all day I love swimming. Sometimes me and my little sister pretend to be mermaids! It is really fun. If someone were to ask me what my most favorite thing in the world, I would say food! I love all kinds of food and I am not really picky.

My 2015-2016 Manifesto is mistakes are proof that you are trying. If people are trying to bring you down it only means that you are above them. Take risks. There will always be a tomorrow. Think happy, Be happy. Girls can do anything boys can do. Expect nothing and you will not be disappointed. You are a beautiful creature. Life goes on. I don't want a perfect life, I want a happy life. Love doesn't hurt expectations do. No pain, No gain. You cant make a rainbow without a little rain. Don't be the same me better. Smile, its easier than explaining why you are sad. I would rather be hurt by the truth, than hurt by a lie. You are amazing. somewhere somebody is thinking of you.

My manifesto can relate to you because we all have had situations where you felt down or felt like the king of the world, but the truth is that life goes on and if you don't move on with life the it will leave you behind. I honestly think that having a motivation in life will help you to accomplish bigger things then you have ever imagined, but with baby steps of course. What are you waiting for? find your motivation.

Lyrical Livelihood

This next project that we are going to work on is pretty amazing! We are doing a music video. I think I am going to have a lot of fun with this project. We are working in groups of either four, three, two, and one. I am working in a group of three with Nahele, and Jasmine. It's kinda like a reunion if you think about it. We were a group for the movie trailer project but we had Makena on our team. We sorta reunited because we worked very efficiently together on the movie trailer project.
This song makes me feel energetic. The song we are doing is called Stiches by Shawn Mendes. If you look at the lyrics without any of the music you would think that it is a very deep, sad, or like a very dark song. But Shawn Mendes is smart. The kind of music he actually plays with the song makes it seem like a much happier song. I think that the music choice was amazing because he got to tell his sad, dark story even though the music had an up-beat rhythm to it. This song makes me feel energetic because of the music. Also the lyrics made me feel energetic even though it was a sad song because when ever I hear the song it makes me want to get up and dance to it.

For our teams music video we chose the song Stiches by Shawn Mendes. We all chose this song because we all love to listen to this song because it makes us feel like getting up and dancing. I am new to this song but when Nahele my teammate introduced me to the song I fell in love with it. We all are fans of Shawn Mendes and we love how he tells his story through his music, and instead of telling a sad story and making it a depressing song. He makes it seem more up-beat and happy in some un-usual way.

The story that this music video will tell is related to heart break. His real music video story thingy is about moving on. The story that we are going for is how happy and sad heart break is. It is about the freedom you have when you become single but how empty it feels. We are trying to tell and explain how to move up & beyond with life after break-ups. Yes we do know that it is pretty depressing but thats how break-ups feel. In our film we are going to shake things up and tell the story of middle school break-ups. Like we all know as we get into middle school we start "going out." Since some of us never experienced this we will not handle this very well. But the concept of "dating" is basically to teach a lesson of moving on. Well thats what I think its about. Even though I never experienced dating I have seen a lot of movies and videos of couples and breakups it looks pretty hurtful.

Movie Trailer Critique

The very last project for the year of 2014 was a movie trailer. We had to get into teams of four. My teammates were Jasmine, Nahele, and makena . I think it was very helpful for me to have 7th graders on my team because I am a 6th grader and I am very new at all this technology so it was very easy for all of us. Our Trailer Plan I think was the most stressful to us, and I think we did the hardest work on it. The Trailer Plan was somewhat stressful because we kept on changing the theme of the movie because the movie had to be first grade appropriate and we didn't want to scare those first graders. I played the leading role Violet. I also filmed the rest of the parts after Violet goes missing.

The project requirements were Foley, five scenes, A movie poster, voice acting, dialogue, audience appropriate, and a timing of 1min and 30sec to 2min. these were I think the easiest requirements to meet. These requirements were easy to meet because they were very simple because in order to make a movie trailer that makes sense we would have to add.     I think my team completed and met the requirements of the movie trailer and I think we went up and beyond and we added more special effects to the trailer. I have a feeling we are going to be able to get a passing grade on this assignment because we tried our best and we got the work done following the requirements.

Another thing that was required, was to critique each others movie trailers. One of the critiques that my classmates gave me was that "we could have had better audio." That one I definitely agree with because we had pretty unstable audio. Also another person said that "our editing did not make that  much sense." I also agree with that one because our editing was not that well put together. With this project I learned alot of things that could be useful for the next two years I have at this school in G.T. One of those things are to shoot not only one scene, shoot several scenes. This is because if you accidentally

Describe the project, your teammates & your Trailer Plan document… Tell us how you contributed.

What were the project requirements & did you complete all of them? Why or why not?

Conclude by describing the class critique & if you agree with the results. What did you learn?

Our Animation Story

P3T4 Taylor Defends Herself from Kapaa Middle School MEDIA on Vimeo.

Our animation story is about one of my teammates Taylor chang. Our animation projects focus statement is Taylor defends herself. This focus statement tells Taylor's story because she was getting bullied all the time by the same person constantly. She knows that she didn't do anything wrong. So one day she had enough! She walked up to her bully and started to pour her heart out! She was proud of herself because she finally defended herself even though her bully just laughed and walked away. Taylor started getting depressed. As her bully watched her, the bully felt bad and realized that what she did had a very bad impact on Taylors life. So she felt that she needs to be a noble person and apologize to Taylor to make it all better. When the bully apologized to Taylor accepted it and understood.

I think our audience will learn about bullying, Standing up for yourself, and to forget & forgive.  Our story is mostly about bullying and what happened to Taylor and how she forgave her bully for what the bully did to her. I think these lessons are very good lessons that everyone should learn because once in our life we are going to get bullied at some point, and yah we can grieve for a little bit and be sorry for ourselves. But honestly no one likes that feeling of grief so in order for that feeling to go away you have to forget and forgive. Sometimes it might be hard to forgive because you feel that what they did to you made a very big impact on your life...... But I promise you that forgiving them could make an even bigger impact on your life. It also can help boost up your confidence that you may have lost during your times of darkness.

Our team.... We have our moments. Their not all good moments, But we have some moments! I think one of the best moments our team has had was our filming we have so much fun filming. You might think "how can filming be fun?" Well when you have teammates like mines. Everything is funny/fun because we all love to goof around and have fun. But don't worry we get the job done! We also have a lot of bad moments. Sometimes we don't meet the requirements, Most of the time it's the time requirements we don't always meet. Also we have a habit of getting aggressive and grouchy when we get stressed, and honestly we get stressed a lot. So most times we get grouchy at each other. It is pretty irritating. But we know that we still love each other and that we don't mean to hurt each other.

Animation Outtakes

This quarters project is animation! I think this is really cool. Animation is the process of creating motion and shape change. For this project we were grouped in groups of four. My four teammates are Taylor Chang, Jasmine Laplante, and Megan Mahikoa. Two interesting facts about Taylor, Jasmine. And Megan is that Taylor is a really organized person, and she likes to do work way ahead of time so that she doesn't have to worry about last minuet work. Jasmine is Canadian, and she is a great problem solver. And lastly Megan is a quiet student who gets the work done, She also strives for big goals in life.

There is many types of animation. But the two main types of animation Mr.Sanderl wants us to try out is stop-motion and G.I.F. Stop motion is an animation technique to make a physically manipulated object or person appear to move on it's own, And G.I.F stands for graphics interchange format. For our teams project we are using stop-motion. It is really easy to accomplish. You honestly don't need to be specially trained or skilled to do this technique. All you need to have patience. For this technique, if you are doing your stop-motion on a object all you have to do is move it a little then SNAP!, Move it a little again then SNAP, then on and on you get the point right?

The theme for this project is tell your story. So out of our group story we chose was Taylors story. She was bullied in the fourth grade because she was new to the school. This just wasn't at school the bully followed her home she would get text saying hurtful things about her. I think everyone should care because bullying is one of the most common things everywhere. There is no way to stop bullying forever but if smart minds put their heads together and try to figure out a way to help prevent bullying that would be awesome. This is technically not only Taylors story because I am pretty sure that a lot of people have experienced this problem. I myself have had this problem many times. But we chose this to tell everyone how you can solve this problem. Simply all you have to do is apologize and make up. That's all it takes.

Typography Images

Typography is when you have a image of something or someone filled with text. The text can be whatever you want it to be. It can be poems, descriptions, stories, basically whatever you feel like putting within the image! I think that this little project can making a lasting impact because the text within the image can touch hearts, and even the image itself can make a big impression on whoever you are giving it to or, even if you are doing it for yourself. Also I think that you are able to make beautiful artwork that can really make a lasting impact.

This was I think one of the most difficult projects that was given to us in Mr.Sanderls class. One of the most difficult parts of the project was cutting the portrait so that its perfect. Solving that problem was easy all I had to do was except that it wouldn't be perfect. Another difficulty that I had was making different layers. By that I mean that I had a hard time getting my layers in order and getting the layers organized. My solution to that was to ask for help. The main person that had helped me throughout all the projects was Loren she was the one who really made the problem solving really easy for me!

I think that my favorite picture is the one of  Mrs.Sanderl. The picture of Mrs.Sanderl. I spent the most time on it and had the most struggle with it. I had to re-do it over and over again because She didn't have enough mid-tones, shadows, ect. Those difficulties helped me make Mrs.Sanderl perfect or expectable. Also Mrs.sanderls picture was my favorite because I love the colors because it matches her perfectly because the colors are happy colors and Mrs.Sanderl is always happy. Okay my three typography images seems random right? So let me explain them to you. The first one is me. The words within me is Weird, procrastinator, crazy, adrenaline-junkie, loving, curious, playful, and random. The colors of the text are my favorite colors. The second one is an innovator his name is Thomas Edison. We had to do this because it was suggested by Mr.Sanderl to do someone who made a difference. This was just a practice so there was no special editing that was needed to be done. All we had to do was copy and paste information to Thomas' face! Lastly is my favorite!! Mrs.Sanderl. Mrs.Sanderls picture was the most difficult and took the most time. Within her is the list of words that describe her. The words are Understanding, caring, flexible, artistic, joyful, never dull, active, smart, sweet, strict, passionate, graceful and resourceful, and lastly graceful. The colors of the words are a gradient of purple and blue. I chose those two colors because it is happy colors and it totally describes Mrs.Sanderl.

Double Exposed Portraits

This couple of weeks in Mr.Sandrels class we have been working on a new project. We are doing photography as always but I think this type of photography is really interesting. This type of photography is called Double Exposure. Actually Double Exposure is not really a type of photography..........It is pretty much like a technique. This technique is used to create beautiful abstract portraits.

Portrait Photography is a type of photography that only catches the chest and above.a Profile view is different from a portrait because in a profile the person that you are taking a picture of will be facing sideways. A portrait is facing straight ahead looking at the camera, See the difference? A silhouette is a drawing that has the outline of something, More common of a human profile filled in with a solid color. A portrait has color within the face and other parts that may be showing.

Honestly I think making a double exposure project is sorta a struggle to make it exactly how you want it. But it is pretty easy to make it a pleasant photo. You just have go through some steps. First you need to take several profile portraits. I think it is useful to take several pictures instead of one because if you have any problem with one picture you can use the extra that you took. Next you have to load on photoshop by selecting File<scripts<load files into stacks. Your pictures need to load into a stack because it is needed to create double exposures. Make sure that the pictures within your body is a textured picture or a picture that symbolizes you. After that you will need to rotate, resize, and crop. While you are doing this you will need to hold down shift or it will "blow up!!!". Then you have to size it to 8.5*11"300px/in. You dont really to size it like this it only apply's to the people who want to print their picture out on a piece of paper. After that you just blend away. you can do this by going into the blending tool located in the side bar where the other tools are and then even out the color tone. Lastly you have to save your beautiful double exposure picture in an organized folder. Try to avoid carless mistakes such as "accidentally deleting it". I would want to make a double exposure because I think making this is very challenging and it takes patience. Also I think that it is a very unique project.

In my double exposure picture I included two pictures that symbolizes me. So the two pictures that I chose that I think represents me is a picture of my volleyball gear and a picture of my dirt bike with its gear. I think that my volleyball represents me because volleyball is one of my passions. Volleyball calms me down when I am stressed. It also calms me down when I am mad or frustrated. This might seem scary but when I am mad or frustrated I go outside and start spiking and hitting the ball really hard. The dirt bike represents me because it helps tell people that I am not the "girly, girl" everybody see's me as. It helps tell people that I can get down and dirty without complaining that I broke a nail. Also riding dirt bike is one of my other passions. Me and my family rides dirt bike every weekend. I think riding dirt bike taught me valuable lessons such as to be an outgoing person and many more! that was the many reasons why my dirt bike and my volleyball represents/symbolizes me.To improve the quality of my work I think I could've spend more time on it because this was a last minute project for me. Luckily with Mr.sanderls help I got it turned in on time and with expectable quality of work. But still I think I could've done way better.

HDR Photography

This past week we have been learning about HDR photography. HDR photograph means High-Dynamic-Range. That also means to take several pictures in different exposure settings. HDR images are used to make a really, really good quality picture. Or HDR is also used for making a way different picture than your original photo. One thing that I like about it is that it makes my picture look one of a kind. One thing I dislike about HDR is that you cant have any movement. Not even the slightest movement or it will create "ghosts."

The key to making an HDR photo is to include exposure compensation. You need a specific kind of camera that has the exposure compensation button. For example a Cannon, and DLSR camera and many more that has this feature. First you need to take seven pictures each with different exposure compensation. Then you open photoshop and do File>Automate>merge to HDR. From there you can play around with the filters and the different options on the computer. On some cameras there is the button that does an automatic HDR [straight from the camera.] personally I like doing my HDR in photoshop because it may take longer but it will come out way better  and photoshop has way more options then if you would do an automatic HDR [straight from the camera] photo.

The thought process behind my portrait and landscape pictures is the Rule Of Thirds, Straight horizon lines, Good lighting, And perfect angle to get the best shots of Taylor and the landscape. I also wanted to create a "surrealistic effect" because I think that it would give the viewer a "wowing" feeling. In the making of this HDR project I think I did pretty good. But the one thing I could have fix and re-do is the landscape. Honestly I am not that satisfied with my landscape but I think I tried my hardest and I tried being creative and to work with what I have. This project was honestly very frustrating, but yet a very fun learning experience!
